What the website and Chrome extension store, how that information is used, and the choices available to you.
On this website
No account is required. This website uses PostHog US Cloud to understand visits, vehicle searches and filters, pricing interactions, and clicks to the Chrome Web Store. Analytics includes browser and device information, referral and campaign information, and approximate location derived from your IP address. A pseudonymous identifier and visit information are stored in your browser’s local storage to measure repeat visits and the path to a store click; we do not identify you by name or create an account profile.
We do not record sessions, automatically collect arbitrary form contents, or send raw vehicle search text to analytics. URL query strings and fragments are removed from analytics URLs; selected structured vehicle filters and campaign labels are recorded separately. Searches and filters are sent to our website server to return results. If you choose VIN search, the VIN is sent through our server to NHTSA’s vPIC service to decode vehicle details. VINs are not included in website analytics. Server or hosting infrastructure may retain standard request logs.
We respect Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control. You can disable analytics for this browser below. Clearing browser storage resets this preference and the anonymous visit history. PostHog privacy policy.
Website analytics in this browser
Analytics controls require JavaScript.
This preference applies to this browser. Clearing its storage resets your choice.
Vehicle photos are served with the site. Following an external source, photo-credit link, or Chrome Web Store link takes you to that provider, whose privacy practices apply there.
In the Chrome extension
Vehicle details, listing prices, VINs when present, and page structure are processed locally in your browser. The extension does not send them to WhenNew or a third-party vehicle service. It does not track your browsing history.
Your browser saves display preferences and paused sites. An optional missing-price list, off by default, can store up to 100 year/make/model entries and encounter counts. It excludes VINs, listing URLs, asking prices, and timestamps, and is not sent anywhere automatically. You can clear it in Settings.
WhenNew may ask you to leave a review after you’ve used it. Changes to a listing’s selected configuration last until you leave the page.
Why the extension requests access
Access to supported web pages lets WhenNew recognize vehicle listings and display pricing alongside them. Storage keeps preferences; the context menu lets you explicitly compare a highlighted dollar amount with another year. The selected amount is processed locally and is not retained.
