Frequently asked questions
Find a vehicle
Start with the model year and the country where it was sold.
Browse the catalog →How do I find the right vehicle?
Search for a year, make, and model, such as “2020 Toyota RAV4,” or use the filters on Browse. Select the market first, then open a result and choose the trim and drivetrain that match the car.
Body type, fuel type, and price filters can help narrow a larger set of results.
Link to this answerDo I need an account or the extension?
No. You can search vehicle prices on this website for free without an account. The Chrome extension is optional; it adds pricing information alongside listings on supported sites.
Link to this answerCan I search with a VIN?
Yes. Choose “by VIN” on the homepage and enter the 17-character VIN. We use NHTSA’s decoder to identify the vehicle and open its model-year pricing page when it matches the selected market’s catalog. Confirm the trim and equipment on that page; this is not an individual vehicle’s window sticker.
Link to this answerWhy is my vehicle missing?
Coverage varies by make, model, year, and market. Check the selected country, remove a filter, or try fewer search terms.
If the vehicle is still missing, we may not have a pricing record for it. View available makes or read about catalog coverage.

Match the configuration, then check what the published price includes.
Sources & methodology →Why does the price change when I select AWD?
Drivetrain can change the original MSRP, as can the trim, engine, powertrain, and other equipment. The selected configuration is shown alongside the price.
The trim table uses the selected drivetrain where available. Check the configuration and pricing notes before comparing two prices.
Link to this answerWhat does “From” or a price range mean?
“From” is the lowest price among our available records for that model year and market. It does not guarantee that every configuration is covered.
A model-year price range is shown when individual trim prices are unavailable. It should not be treated as the exact MSRP of a particular trim. How we handle trims and ranges →
Link to this answerWhy might the price differ from a window sticker?
Check the trim, drivetrain, and optional equipment. Destination charges may be included or excluded, and taxes or dealer fees can be additional. Manufacturers can also change published prices during a model year.
Open Pricing notes & sources on the vehicle page to check the linked reference and what is included.
Link to this answerWhat does the inflation-adjusted price tell me?
For U.S. vehicles, it expresses the original MSRP in the comparison year’s dollars using CPI-U. It gives purchasing-power context; it is not a resale estimate or a prediction of what a used car should cost.
You can change the comparison year in the vehicle’s pricing notes. See the calculation and an example →
Link to this answerHow do Canadian and Mexican prices work?
Choose Canada or Mexico in Browse to see local-market MSRP in CAD or MXN. We do not substitute converted U.S. prices or apply U.S. inflation adjustments to those markets.
Link to this answerUse the extension
Bring original pricing into your browsing on supported used-car sites.
Explore the extension →How do I install WhenNew?
Open WhenNew in the Chrome Web Store and choose Add to Chrome. Then open a supported used-car listing and look for the WhenNew icon beside the vehicle title.
See supported sites and setup steps →
Link to this answerWhy is no price showing on a listing?
- Check that the listing site is supported and that WhenNew is enabled in Chrome.
- Open the extension and check that the current site is not paused.
- Use Rescan, then reload the listing if needed.
Some vehicles are not covered yet. If an exact configuration cannot be identified, the extension may show a range. You can also search the website to check available pricing.
Link to this answerDoes the extension track my browsing history?
The extension processes vehicle details locally and does not track your browsing history. The website uses separate usage analytics with browser opt-out controls.
